In High School in the mid-west I was either a C or D student. Here in this very brand new school that had outside hallways and no such thing as Snow Days(the concept did not make sense to them)
This High School had something called Rain Days and if it rained even if the hallways had covers as we walked to class, the idea of getting wet or classwork getting we ment we we to take a day off from school.
I was flunking a class called Psychology so I got sent to a study hall. My other classes I did very well on even in Choir I did well. I took a Journalism class and got my first A.
My lunch in the beginning I would sit with every body on the green grass. That was 87` Then in 88 while sitting on the green grass a group would sit with me.(I would later discover, they were not my friends)
My friend Jennifer had been at another school learning English since German was her first language.
The school she had been before at was a ESL School to help transition you to the new environment before joining into this type of High School setting. Jennifer sat in the lunchroom in 87' and talked to the other students whom had been at this ESL School.
In the year 88' Jennifer's mom got into a fight with VP of the school. The VP of the school in 87' became the Principal in 88'. So, Jennifer got sent to another school in Los Gatos. She didn't know anyone so, the High School Counselors, so that the best way to get to know anyone is to be Hall pass Monitor guard. So, she sat in the hallways checking everyone's passes to make sure they had the right to be in the hallways in the first place. She sat in a High School Desk for 1 hour a day. The Los Gatos High School had indoor hallways. It looked like one giant office building.
Jennifer was really Social. She had a part time job in the School Year at the YMCA. In the off School years she was a YMCA Kids Counselors. She also took them on trips to ride bicycles around some lake in Tahoe, took them to beaches, helped them with homework during the school year, did camping with these students in State Parks. She got the position because Monique her sister had told the YMCA that she is trust worthy. (TRUST is a very strong word)
When Jenifer graduated She was ignorded by her classmates because even tho she was a hall pass monitor, no one knew her and then she went to college and that is where she made her friends.
However she made allot of friends at the YMCA.
Meanwhile I thought I was making friends. When I wasn't sitting on the green grass in 88' in 87' I had met a group of younger individuals whom only like eating lunch by there lockers. I , occassionally sat with them or sat on the green grass and had lunch.
In 88' when sitting on the grass I was sitting with a group of individuals who would graduate with me.
Then after everyone stood in the football stadium (not the football field) and each went to the stage to get their diploma and listened to all the graduation music and speeches and then found our parents and our friends. Then I had to go home and change out of graduation cloths and put on some different clothes. I had to return to high school one more time. The school had a manditory after graduation party and you have to go to it to get the actual Diploma verse the make up diploma they gave you.
You checked in where I had study hall, it was behind the library. The lunch friends told me to stay in the Study hall and they would go check to see if it was safe and come back for me. I had wanted to play night time volley ball but they had said no you say and play gambling night in this room.
So, I listened to them and waited for them to come back to hang out with me.
I am gulliable mid western then. They never came back.
Then after all the fun we sat in the cafeteria. The teacher handed out awards and prizes. Then we walked back to our chairs. Then went home for the night at 2am. This was to deter any wild after school party's. I didn't really win any prizes instead I got a most likely award and a discount card for clothing. I truthfully don't like High School. College in California, I do like it a whole much better than high school.
High School you don't get to choose your classes.
In College you do, and I like that!!!
