GYM Dialect in translation

I know the F.B.I. and C.I.A. have employment in linguistics in translation however when I first moved to California the English language is different from my training in Wisconsin.

I was in P.E. in the Gym, I was sitting on the ground with several females that I was introduced too.

We were talking about vacations.   There was a blond and she said, "she was from organ."

 "I said, organ?!"

"Where's that?!"  I said.

She said" it was up, with a question mark on her face."

In a group setting all the other females asked, "don't you know where organ is?!"

I looked up.

"NO!!!!" they screamed.

"Not in here!!!!"  She said.

I said, "what city is in it?!"

She  said, "Portland, Organ."

"Oh"...I said, bouncing my head up in down in understanding that she said, it wrong.

Where I used to live ....we said, "OR-E-GON"  (the E was an A)

Then everybody looked at me and asked where I was from?

and I said, "Wisconsin.."

"Really?!"  "Where is that in Europe?"  "What Nation is that?!"  They asked.

"No."  "Wisconsin..."I said it slower this time.

"Ok."  "What was the city?!"  They asked.

And I spelled it out real slow.

"O-CO-NO-MO-WOC." (THEN I said it real fast,  Oconomowoc).

They all nodded there heads, but before they could ask me any more questions our Japanese P.E.  teacher told us to get up, and she told us the basics.

In the early morning (8am) we were to run around the outside of the school, run from the sporting area to the outside of the school fence and run on the sidewalk, run to the school parking lot, and the school pool(where there is a morning class) and then back to the gym.

I did this for 3 months.

The very first vacation trip in California

It was Vacation in California and the very first trip was to visit why California was so famous.

California was famous for gold mines.   So, my siblings and parents went to a Gold mine in the State Parks.  We had a history lesson about the mining industry.   Then we took a tour of a retired gold mine in train seats as if we were on the trolley in San Francisco roads.    The tour guide would stop every now and then to give us a history lesson on the individuals whom worked there including the type of tools used and any side information of backgrounds.

Then the best part......we got to pan for GOLD in a river that was nearby.   We were showed what to do and look for in the river.   I only found one tiny flake.   The pans that we used, we had to pay for and it was only like 10 dollars per pan equipment.   You were only given a 20-30 minute use of the pan, then you had to give it back to the tour guide.

It was a very neat and interesting vacation trip.

THE RAFT

My neighbor had gotten remarried and discovered the stepdaughter loved to swim.   So, he had made a raft and put it several feet away from the pier.   He placed some barrels under a wooden square and tied it in real good with metal straps.   Then added an anchor to the raft so it would not go anywhere.

There was allot of seaweed near my area of swimming to the right to the parked boats.   So, I was a bit sacred to swim over that to get to the raft.

However, all her friends loved swimming and jumping off the raft into the lake until she graduated and went to college.

Sneaking the dogs Green Beans under the table

My mom liked cooking green beans whenever she made casserole.   I did not like casserole that much let alone the meatloaf with Heinz ketchup on it.   However, I at it regardless, I owned a dog and the dog always sat near my lap under the table.   I wanted dessert; however, I had to eat all my green beans.  I would ask for seconds, and my mother would go into the kitchen and get more out of the pan.  While her back was turned, I immediately snuck some green beans off my plate and to my lap.   The dog really enjoyed the treat.   So, this is how I got dessert from our table.

Ordering Desk at OSH

There was a position at OSH hardware store called the ordering desk.   Many contractors came to my register and did not know about it.  I told them about it when they applied for a OSH Commercial credit card verses the other one.

I told them they could have a credit commercial card and then have additional credit cards with the same number on it, to match the name of their company.  So, they can keep track of their workers spending.  While they filled out the application and I rang up their sale I told them about the Ordering desk.

The ordering desk at OSH hardware is where a special order takes place.  So, instead of purchasing only three of one product that is found on the shelf, they could go to the Ordering desk at OSH hardware and special order more of the same items.   So, they could purchase 100 boxes of the certain product that they needed.  The ordering desk would quote them a price for that amount of one item.  Then it would take about 1 week to 2 weeks for it to show up at the store.   Then they would hand a ticket to the cashier who would ring them up for the item.   OSH had a back door for heavy pick-ups.   So, then the contactor would go to the back door of the warehouse (warehouse was located in back of store) and drive around with the pick-up / trailer /truck and the OSH warehouse personnel would put the merchandise into the contactors pick up/ trailer/truck for them only after the warehouse crew member or manager took a look at the receipt.

weekends in Monterey

Are you a tourist?!   Monterey is very picturesque on the weekends.

I used to drive to Monterey and and photograph the ocean.   I never met anyone there.

I did talk to someone in a booth for directions.   They had a tourist booth located on the side of the road in Monterey and I stopped there to ask question.    They gave me a tourist book, and I used it until I knew Monterey locations and didn't need the Monterey book anymore.

I photographed the shops, there merry go round, the scenic route on High Way 1,  and sometimes I used different filters.

The funny thing is I never stopped for food there I always brought in my car Genola bars.

I also bought some really neat items from there.

These weekends are the days I lugged around all my camera gear and hand held notebook to make notations...

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe they recently had an avalanche.

Did they have workers you check on snow conditions before anyone should ski on this mountain?!

According to the UNLV Avalanche Safety Guidelines a pdf file.

5 questions to ask about the terrain.

and

6 questions to ask about the Snow.

The Terrain 5 questions are=

1. Can the terrain produce avalanches

2. Is the slope steeper than 25-30 degrees

3.  Are there any visible signs of recent releases.

4. Are there any run outs areas on your route.

5. Is there an absence of any natural anchors .

6 Questions about the snowpack=

1. Is the snowpack unstable.

2. Are there any recognizable patterns.

4.Is there weak bonding layer.

5. Has there been any recent avalanches recently.

6. Is there a force man-made or natural for this release to occur.

If you can answer YES to any of these questions it is not safe to ski in this area.

Ski Lifts were always a fright

Ski Lifts were always a fright for me.  Until I went to Tahoe ski resort.   This ski resort has a gongala which you climb into like a boat that hangs from wheels on leather ropes.    It has a viewing room and when you get out of it you get onto the actual ski lift.   This ski lift might be a little scary but it takes you all the way to the top with a very good view.
